    Interims results 2014/15

    BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA, 23 October 2014 – Tesco PLC today released its 2014/15 Group results. In Slovakia we have focused on improving our existing stores, re-launching our popular Tesco Value brand and opening four new stores – 3 supermarkets and 1 Express store, providing customers with even more convenient ways to shop with us. We’d like to thank customers for their continued loyalty and colleagues for their outstanding service and hard work during the last six months.

Our Hravo a Zdravo campaign put food at the heart of everything we do, offering customers ideas and advice on how to eat healthy, tasty meals, and our re-launched Tesco Value range now offers customers even more quality products. Our market-leading Grocery Home Shopping service continues to provide customers with a convenient way to shop with us.

    “Earlier this year, we also published our first ‘Tesco and Society Report’, providing details of the work we’ve been doing to realise our three big ambitions - to help tackle food waste, provide opportunities for young people and help our colleagues and costumers lead healthy and more active lives.”

    • We continued to improve the shopping environment in our stores, re-fitting 11 Home and Electronics departments in our hypermarkets.
    • We opened four new small stores – 3 supermarkets in Bratislava – Petržalka (Bzovická), Stará Ľubovňa, Nová Dubnica and an Express store in Trnava.
    • Our Grocery Home Shopping service continued to deliver for customers with growth in sales, customers and coverage.
    • Our mobile phone operator Tesco Mobile continued to grow, with the number of active customers increasing from 100,000 to more than 140,000.

    Quality Food

    • We launched our new Hravo a Zdravo (Playfully Healthy) campaign, putting food at the heart of everything we do. The campaign saw Miška Králiková become the face of Tesco in Slovakia. Miška Králiková’s blog, which provides advice to customers on how to prepare tasty and healthy meals for their families has already generated 140,000 visits.
    • We re-launched our popular Tesco Value range. We now have 346 Value product lines from 117 suppliers, with each product being taste-tested by customers. In total we have developed more than 160 new products across our own brand ranges. All own brand products are covered by our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
    • We improved our fresh produce range for customers, introducing new seasonal fruit and displays in store.
    • Tesco was awarded the accolade of “Food retailer of the year 2013” by MasterCard and our own brand, Vitakids won in the Kids’ snacks category at the Consumer’s Choice Awards.
    • In August, Tesco Foundation announced a EUR 50,000 grant for Slovak farmers and food producers who would like to extend their knowledge in the fields of quality, innovation, or business skills. We are one of Slovak agriculture’s biggest customers and we continue to support Slovak producers through the “SK Quality Brand” project.

    Tesco in Society

    • With our 10,000 colleagues we remain the second largest private employer. Thanks to the wide range of offered services, we provide working opportunity to people with various education – from basic up to university – as well as various job descriptions: beside shop assistants these are for example qualified bakers for our own bakeries operated by TESCO, pharmacists, managers, university graduates, IT specialists, drivers, butchers.
    • More than 13 per cent of Tesco colleagues are currently taking part in one of our development programs. In the last six months, almost 60 managers have also taken part in our new Development Days program.
    • We organised Run for Life, the largest sports-charity event in Slovakia, for the seventh consecutive year. More than 13,000 participating runners contributed to the EUR 55,600 donation, which will help fund the education roadshow “Heart Full of Health”. The roadshow will help to teach upper primary school pupils in 25 schools how to take care of their heart.
    • This year we  published our first “Tesco and Society Report” for Slovakia evaluating our progress in respect of our three main ambitions: Tackling food waste, helping our customers and colleagues lead healthier and more active lives and creating opportunities for young people.
